Have to say that I enjoyed this week more than expected, my favourite day was when it was the symposium-going green is definitely something that I have aimed for ever since I was educated, from a friend-and as my "shrink-friend" says 'when you know better you do better'!!! So being able to listen to working architects, who implement this vital 'change' in their practice-was so completely exciting:)!!!
My favourite speaker has to be Andrew Horne who eloquently and with much enthusiasm explained his philosophical views of ‘going green’- that even though it seems as if there are lots of limits, limits being set by the government (the slow process in directing this Eco-friendly way), the meek stand by working architects on this necessary change, that in fact there is an ABUNDANCE of possibilities!!! To have complete trust within you, to step up and not wait for the change but be the change!!! We are the contributors of this ‘virus’ and it’s by time for the sake of ours and our future little ones that we do something about it…Now after a session like that how can you not feel inspired?!

Have to admit was so taken by these speakers that I bought the book that one of them suggested, ‘cradle to cradle’ which at first when you read it seems like Utopian ideas but then everything sinks in and there literally is a world of possibilities. We basically live in a culture that has a design problem-quite ironic because it’s the thing I’m most struggling with! Design is the first human intention-what we need to ask ourselves is ‘what is our intention’? Is it to overload our planet with unnecessary pollutants or to design things in such a way that it may naturally degrade into the earth and become a nutrient to the soil just as the tree does with its ‘waste’-so that our ‘away’ (landfills that consume our waste) becomes away. In a nutshell we need to design not just for ourselves but for everyone that makes this overwhelminglingly beautiful planet…
